WFEO President Eng. Adel MMJ Al-Kharafi attended the 27th Indian Engineering Congress 2012 on Engineering for Sustainable Development and Inclusive Growth: Vision 2025 which was held in New Delhi (India) on 13-16 December 2012.

Organized by The Institution of Engineers (India) (IEI) with partner organizations, namely, World Federation of Engineering Organization (WFEO), Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (DELGOVT), Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and Delhi Technological University (DTU), the Congress was hosted by the Delhi State Centre of The Institution of Engineers (India) and held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

The Congress was inaugurated by the Respected President of India Mr Pranab Mukherjee on 14 December 2012 and attended by the President of IEI Mr S. L. Garg; President-Elect of IEI Mr S. S. Rathore; Past Presidents of IEI included Mr R. P. Gupta, Vice President of WFEO, and Mr G. Prabhakar, National Member of WFEO; Members of IEI Council and the Secretary & Director General IEI Maj Gen R. K. Sanan, VSM (Retd), along with a numerous community of the country’s engineers.

The foreign dignitaries, who participated in the event, included Past President of WFEO Mrs Maria-Jesus Prieto Laffargue; President-Elect of WFEO Mr Marwan Abdelhamid; President of the South African Institution of Civil Engineering (SAICE) Mr Martin Van Veelen; along with Mr Mahendra B Gurung, President of the Nepal Engineers Association (NAE), its Vice President Mr Dilip Kumar Jha, and Mr Suraj Lamichhane, the Deputy General Secretary of NEA.

WFEO President Adel Al Kharafi, in his speech, presented the World Federation of Engineering Organizations to the participants at the opening ceremony. He also discussed with IEI dignitaries about strengthening the collaboration between both organizations and congratulated IEI for organizing such an important event.

The Congress covered deliberations on various topics based on the sub-themes, namely ‘Engineering Education’, ‘Macro Level Sustainable Development Aspects’, ‘Role of Inputs from Engineering Sectors’, and ‘Ethical Issues’.

Internationally recognized Organizations and Companies, such as The Institution of Engineering and Technology, UK (IET); Reliance Industries Limited (RIL); Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited ( BHEL); Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC); Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Limited; EMTA Coal Limited; KEC International Limited, and Petronet LNG Limited actively joined this major event as Main Sponsors.
