The WFEO Women in Engineering STC reports on the Second Forum for Arab Women Engineers

Second Forum for Arab Women EngineersThe forum took place in Beirut at the UNESCO premises in Lebanon from 11th to 12th May 2012, under the Patronage of the Lebanese President General Michel Sleiman and was attended by 12 Arab countries and about 500 participants.

 

The following personalities participated in the Forum:

  • The Minister of Public work and Transport for Lebanon – Eng. Ghazi Aridi.
  • The Minister of Public Works for Jordan – Eng. Yahia Al Kasbie
  • The General Secretary of Federation of Arab Engineers (FAE) – Dr. Adel Al Hadithi
  • The President of the Order of Engineers & Architects Beirut- Eng. Elie Bsaibis

Chairwoman of WiE Bashayer Al Awwad, made a speech at the Opening Ceremony and presented the mission and vision of her committee.

Discussions focused on the following themes:

  • The reality of the Arab Engineers as leaders
  • Leader Women Engineers: their specificity
  • Empowering Arab Women Engineers in leadership positions
  • Successful Stories of role models of Arab Women Engineers

Eng. Bashayer made a presentation on the different challenges facing Women Engineers at the international level and how to deal with these challenges with references to best practice experiences and studies.

At the closing session, the Arab Women Engineers Committee in the Federation of Arab Engineers expressed their interest in joining the WFEO WIE Committee as a member.

The Forum was successfully closed with the presentation of an award to the WFEO WiE Committee participants.
